Vacationing in New Bern, NC
The local community of New Bern, NC has a bevy of tourist attractions that will make any visitor at the Hanna House wish they had scheduled an entire week’s stay. A very rich history in this area has led to a vibrant culture of arts, entertainment and recreational opportunities in our region.
Many of our guests visit New Bern because of our great proximity to the Atlantic Ocean through Pamlico Sound. This natural water feature has given rise to a great marina and fishing economy in and around our city. In the last few years, fishermen in our area have been feeling the effects of some severe weather events that has dampened their ability to enjoy the outdoor recreation they love the most.
However, some good news has been reported lately regarding one of New Bern’s most popular marinas, the BridgePointe Marina. As this article published by the Sun Journal reports, this marina, closed for a year after Hurricane Irene caused major damage in 2011, just received a major state designation as an environmentally friendly facility.
The Clean Marina designation, developed by the North Carolina Division of Coastal Management, is a voluntary process that a marina may go through to be recognized for best practices that go above and beyond the state’s regulatory minimums. Since reopening, the BridgePointe Marina has installed many measures for environmental protections, including new flotation devices for containing gas spills and recycling containers for old fishing line.
The BridgePointe, which reopened in October 2013, also has a number of added amenities that Hanna House guests may want to check out. These include 125 new floating slips, a newly constructed picnic area and a new wireless network for electronic devices and laptops.
The Hanna House Bed & Breakfast thinks that there’s no better community to enjoy a restful and entertaining weekend than New Bern. Enjoy the history or get in touch with Mother Nature during your stay with us. Whatever your passion, we’ll be happy to tell you where you can enjoy yourself all day long in coastal North Carolina.
